At CKL Engineers, we believe in supporting our community and preserving its rich cultural landmarks. When we learned that Skyway Bowl, Chicago's last Black-owned bowling alley, was facing potential closure due to financial hardship, we felt compelled to act. To aid in their efforts to remain open, CKL Engineers has donated over $4,000 to Skyway Bowl's fundraising campaign.
Skyway Bowl, located at 9915 S. Torrence Ave., has been a cherished gathering place on Chicago's South Side for over 75 years. It has hosted numerous community events, school leagues, and celebrations, making it an integral part of Chicago's social fabric. Multiple generations of CKL's founding family have been patrons of Skyway Bowl. Many of us were introduced to bowling there as kids, a rare opportunity in some of Chicago's most disadvantaged communities.
However, Skyway Bowl has faced many challenges - first, a decline in the sport's popularity heading into the 21st century, then the COVID-19 pandemic reducing traffic even further. In response, owner Brunetta Hill-Corley began Operation Save Our Lanes, a grassroots fundraising effort that has raised over $16,000 in donations over the past few months.
Our contribution aims to bolster this effort and ensure that Skyway Bowl remains a successful community space for generations to come. To join Operation Save Our Lanes and support a pillar of Chicago's South Side, donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/operation-save-our-lanes
